Who we are

The United Nations Global Compact Network Nigeria is a business-led sustainability initiative of the United Nations Global Compact, it was launched in Nigeria in 2007 during the Nigerian Economic Summit.

The Global Compact Local Network Nigeria has the mission to promote the United Nations Global Compact’s 10 Principles and SDGs in Nigeria, as well as contribute to the implementation of the United Nations' broader development goals such as:

  • - Promotion of sustainable practices among local businesses;
  • - Recruitment of more participants to the Global Compact;
  • - Assisting participants in implementing the UN Global Compact’s Ten Principles and undertaking partnerships;
  • - Providing a platform for business and non-business participants to engage on local context issues

There are currently over 150 participants from different parts of Nigeria subscribed to the initiative and who engage from time to time on the platform. They include businesses, Non-governmental associations, educational institutions, public sector institutions.

As an engagement platform, the Local Network deploys the under listed means to engage members.

  • Advocacy /Policy Dialogue (Workshops and Seminars)
  • Capacity Building (Communication of Progress (COP), Risk Assessment trainings, etc)
  • Media Engagement (Press conference, Media interaction, Communiqué & Advert publications)
  • Report Publications & Dissemination
  • Issues Based Road-shows

In addition, the Network has consistently attracted some of the Global Compact issues based platforms. It has significant footprint on the Anti-corruption theme, under which it implements the Collective Action project supported by Siemens.

The UN Global Compact Network Nigeria supports both indigenous firms and subsidiaries of multinational corporations in implementing the UN Global Compact Ten Principles and meeting the annual reporting requirement. The network helps companies to identify sustainability challenges and opportunities; provide practical guidance for action; and promote action in support of broader UN goals.

Our Local Network activities are based on local priorities and needs. They range from corporate sustainability seminars, reporting trainings, issue-specific workshops, country-based consultations and policy dialogue to collective action projects, partnerships, networking events, local newsletters and awards.
